Tim Commerford, bassist of rap-metal band Rage Against the Machine, revealed in an interview with the American magazine Spin that he had prostate cancer.
The 54-year-old musician said he was doing well after receiving treatment earlier this year. “I hope there’s someone who will read this and say, ‘I need to get checked out,'” he said.
He said he had his prostate removed two months before Rage Against the Machine kicked off its reunion tour last July. Only the band members and a small circle of confidants were aware of his diagnosis.
Rage Against the Machine had to cancel their tour in August due to a leg injury to frontman Zack de La Rocha. This reunion, originally scheduled for March 2020, had been delayed due to the pandemic, after an absence of the group on stage for 11 years.
