If Daniil Medvedev will take his place on the throne of the ATP next Monday, Rafael Nadal is indeed the boss of this start to the season.
The Spaniard confirmed this impression, Saturday, February 26, by winning against Cameron Norrie in the final of the Acapulco tournament (6-4, 6-4) to win his third title in a row in 2022 after the tournament of Melbourne and the Australian Open.
Ranked 5th in the world at the start of the week, Nadal won his 91st career title on the Pacific coast and won his 15th victory in a row in 2022. His last defeat dates back to August 5, 2021, against South African Lloyd Harris at the 3rd round of the Washington tournament. He then withdrew for the rest of the year due to a left foot injury.
The 35-year-old Spaniard got the better of the 26-year-old Briton in 1:54, beating him for the fourth time in as many confrontations. He will not have given up any set during his stay in Acapulco, as in 2020 (he had also won the tournament in 2005 and 2013). On Saturday, he conquered the only break of the first set in the 5th game, taking advantage of two errors from Norrie and sending a winning forehand on the line to take the service of the Briton.

The two opponents then traded breaks in the first two games of the second set and Norrie led 2-1, but Nadal then pulled away winning four games in a row. Broken on his serve to win the match, he did not let his second chance pass.
