Rafael Nadal worried. A little less than two months from Roland-Garros, the one who has won 14 times at Porte d’Auteuil, is postponing his return to the courts. Eleven times winner in Monte-Carlo, Nadal thus announced, Tuesday April 4, his package on Twitter, “I’m not ready to compete at the highest level yet, I won’t be able to play in one of the most important tournaments of my career, Monte-Carlo”.
The 36-year-old Spaniard has not played competitively since losing the Australian Open second round in mid-January. He had already missed the tournament last year through injury.
A blow that does not come alone for the tournament organizers, since the world No.2, Carlos Alcaraz, author of a very prolific North American tour, is also forced to withdraw before the Monegasque event. Like his eldest, he also announced on his Twitter account that after consulting his doctor, he … not “would be able to go to Monte-Carlo to start the season on clay.”
Already a winner on the surface at the start of the year in Buenos Aires, Alcaraz will therefore have to wait to shine in Monte-Carlo, he who had lost entry last year, against Sebastian Korda.
