Radio-Canada | Slimming cure on the Mordu platform, 11 positions deleted

Three years after its launch, Radio-Canada’s gourmet platform, Mordu.ca, will undergo a slimming treatment, we have learned The Press. In total, 11 positions will be eliminated, the state-owned company confirmed Thursday. A decision motivated by budgetary reasons.


The director of public relations and promotion at Radio-Canada, Marc Pichette, confirmed the news during a short exchange with The Press. Employees were met all day Thursday.

“In the current context of cutbacks, the Digital Media sector must make strategic choices to refocus its efforts in order to better serve the company,” said the director. Mordu will therefore continue to exist, but in a simplified formula. We chose to keep what attracts our audiences the most, namely the recipes portion, as well as some related content on the site and the social networks of this platform. »

The Mordu platform, which reported to Digital Media, will now be under the responsibility of the Television sector, specified Mr. Pichette. “Clearly, 11 people will unfortunately lose their jobs and 4 others will be transferred to the Television sector,” he added. As for the Mordu.ca website development team, it will be reassigned to other mandates in the Digital Media sector. »

People whose positions have been declared surplus are leaving the company today, while others will remain in their positions until the end of March 2024 or until the workforce adjustment process is completed. . Transfers to other sectors will be completed by the end of March.

Radio-Canada’s entire food offering was brought together under the Mordu umbrella. Reports, culinary news, tips and advice, recipes, good addresses and even web series. Of all this, only the recipes will remain.

Many collaborators have distinguished themselves on the platform over the past three years. From nutritionist Geneviève O’Gleman to mixologist Claudia Doyon, pastry chef Patrice Demers and the chefs of the Mordu brigade : Amine Laabi, Caroline Huard alias Loounie, Minh Phat, Anita Feng, Vincent Dion-Lavallée, Bob le chef and Pasquale Vari.

The platform also highlights the content of cooking and food shows on Radio-Canada television, including 5 chefs in my kitchen, Eat, The Chiefs !, Enjoy or The grocery store.

Marc Pichette did not give details on the attendance of the Mordu platform, but he affirmed that management was “satisfied with its performance”. “We are convinced that its simplified formula will continue to interest users. »
