François-Xavier Bellamy, Les Républicains MEP and head of the list for the European elections, was the guest of “8h30 franceinfo”, Friday January 19, 2024. Appointment of Rachida Dati, ex-LR, to the Ministry of Culture, “drifts “within the Stanislas school, inclusion of abortion in the Constitution… He answered questions from Jean-Rémi Baudot and Agathe Lambret.

Rachida Dati in government: “a blow” from the president to LR

François-Xavier Bellamy denounces “political behavior” that he judges “distressing” thus aiming to rally Rachida Dati to the macronie. The President of the Republic brought “a blow” to the Republicans by appointing the mayor of the 7th arrondissement Minister of Culture. François-Xavier Bellamy does not understand how we can “having called the whole macronie a bunch of traitors and then joining them”.

The head of the LR list in the European elections believes that behind this nomination lies a desire to‘”weakening a political family”, in this case his own. But he wants to reassure right-wing voters: “Don’t worry, we will recover!”

Stanislas School: an “incriminating report”, made to “weaken”

Asked about the National Education inspection report made public by Mediapart which points to homophobic and sexist abuses within the private Catholic school Stanislas, François-Xavier Bellamy believes that “the problem is not Stanislas, but that not all students have the chance to have access to excellence”.

For the MEP, this report, commissioned by the ministry, is “an incriminating report”. “It was launched by Minister Pap Ndiaye to be able to weaken Stanislas. I read this report. I found it very surprising in the fact that he systematically seeks out students whose testimony may be negative about the establishment. There are not very many of them, but at no time does he talk about all the students and as a result, there are many who are happy to live in this establishment.”

François-Xavier Bellamy believes that behind the controversy, Stanislas is being blamed “to have become a symbol of an excellence which is – and this is disastrous – reserved for a form of social elite”.

IVG in the Constitution: an “Americanization of political life”

“Will this law change anything in the life of a single woman in France?” asks François-Xavier Bellamy as Congress meets in March to vote on the inclusion of voluntary termination of pregnancy (abortion) in the Constitution. The head of the LR list for the European elections believes that “the real fight of feminism” does not lie in this question.

On the possibility of guaranteeing that France will not experience a policy reversal as the United States experienced in June 2022, François-Xavier Bellamy believes “we are witnessing the importation of an American debate into French political life, the Americanization of political life is a drift to which we have a duty to resist.”
