R. Kelly will not testify at his trial

(Montreal) Singer R. Kelly told a federal judge today that he will not testify at his trial where he is charged with, among other things, child pornography.

The judge raised the issue minutes before lawyers for the fallen star and two co-defendants began calling their first witnesses, working to counter two weeks of testimony from prosecutors, including four women who accused Kelly of sexual assault.

A federal judge in New York sentenced R. Kelly in June to 30 years in prison on charges of extortion and sex trafficking. A conviction on just one or two of the charges at the Chicago trial could add years to that sentence.
