Quintets for clarinet, Reicha and Neukomm

Clarinet lovers quickly toured the repertoire with the Quintets of Mozart and Brahms, the Sonatas of Brahms, the Concertos of Mozart, of Weber, even of Crusell. A tip for broadening horizons is to find a curious interpreter, such as Dieter Klöcker, and follow his releases. The other is to watch for bargains: how can unknown scores be of such quality? Both Quintets with clarinet by Antonin Reicha (1770-1836) and Sigismund Neukomm (1778-1858) come to us from contemporaries of Beethoven, but we can place their style more in a late classical vein, marked by Haydn and Mozart. At its most avant-garde, the language leans towards a Weber, mixed with Haydn (Neukomm, 2e movement). However, what matters is the perfect pleasure that one derives from listening, nourished by the melodic inventiveness and the art of the composers. The Stamic Quartet recorded this in 2016 with a Swiss clarinetist, and we are very happy to finally be able to discover it.
