Quentin Fillon-Maillet, 4th in the mass start, misses the grand slam in biathlon

He had accustomed us to exploits: his performance on the mass start (15 km) at the Beijing Olympics this Friday therefore looks like a disappointment for Quentin Fillon-Maillet. The Frenchman nevertheless finished fourth and even if he did not win the hoped-for grand slam, he signed an exceptional Chinese Olympiad: five medals in six races, including two gold.

The title in mass start goes to the Norwegian Johannes Boe, who offers himself a fifth medal at the Beijing Olympics and an eighth Olympic medal. Silver medal for Sweden’s Martin Ponsiluoma and bronze for Norway’s Vetle Christiansen.

Quentin Fillon-Maillet cracks on the last shot

Quentin Fillon-Maillet had attacked the race in the lead, but on the lying shots, which are not his specialty, he commits a fault each time. The Norwegian Johannes Boe, he made ⅘ on the first shot and full card on the second.

Hope is then reborn: QFM revives after the first standing shot and a clear round. He leaves in 3rd position. But he cracks on the last shot and does not take advantage of Boe’s foul. Three errors out of five for Fillon-Maillet, or three penalty laps. The Norwegian Christiansen managed a clear round and took the advantage over the Frenchman.
