His move for this “Holyrood week” was only known at the very last minute, as is now the custom, because of his mobility problems.
Smiling, in a soft blue outfit and leaning on a cane, the Queen was photographed at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, Edinburgh, on the occasion of the “handover of the keys” ceremony, during which the monarch is traditionally seen handing over the keys to the city and is welcomed into its “ancient and hereditary kingdom of Scotland”.
She was accompanied by her son Edward and his wife, Sophie.
Her last appearance dated back to June 22, when she met at Windsor Castle, where she now resides, the Governor of New South Wales in Australia.
The British celebrated for four days in early June his 70 years of reign. She had appeared there three times on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.
On the occasion of this platinum jubilee, the monarch, who is the oldest in the world in office, had reaffirmed her intention to continue to serve her subjects “to the best of (her) abilities, supported by (her) family”.
She is more and more often represented by Prince Charles, 73, heir to the crown, who will also participate in various engagements this week in Scotland, as part of this week of Holyrood.
