(London) Queen Elizabeth II, 95, “reluctantly” accepted her doctors’ advice to rest for a few days, forcing her to cancel a visit to Northern Ireland, Buckingham Palace announced on Wednesday.
“The queen reluctantly accepted a medical opinion urging her to rest for the next few days,” the palace said in a short statement.
“Her Majesty remains in good spirits and is disappointed not to be able to visit Northern Ireland, where she was to participate in a series of engagements” on Wednesday and Thursday, he said, adding that she was “looking forward to to be able to go there in the future ”.
After having spent successive confinements at Windsor Castle near London and despite speculation about a withdrawal after the death in April of her husband Philip, Elizabeth II has recently participated in many public engagements.
She appeared again Tuesday at a reception attended by Prime Minister Boris Johnson and entrepreneurs in Windsor.
Last week she was seen walking in public with a cane, a first since 2004.
