After four seasons with the Syracuse Orange in the NCAA, Quebec tackle Matthew Bergeron announced Tuesday night that he was eligible for the next NFL Draft.
Bergeron published a message on his social networks, in which he explains his decision, mentioning to have loved his years spent in Syracuse. “The relationships I’ve built and the experience I’ve had are invaluable,” he writes. I have made lifelong friendships that I am so grateful for. »
The Victoriavillois then thanks his coaches, but “especially Coach [Dino] Babers and Coach [Mike] Schimidt”. “Your constant support has helped me grow more than I ever imagined,” he notes. I am humbled by the opportunity presented to me and I would not have gotten to where I am without your immeasurable support and the love of my family. »
Bergeron, 6’5″ and 322 lbs, studied at Cégep de Thetford before joining Syracuse in 2019. The one who was one of the captains of his team last season received an invitation to the next Senior Bowl, which he accepted. In doing so, he could return to Syracuse for another season.
“It’s always been a dream for me to play in the NFL,” added the 22-year-old. Thanks to my time here, I know I’m ready for the next challenge. »
The last Quebecer to take part in the Senior Bowl, an event that brings together the best prospects, is Benjamin St-Juste. The Montrealer was then chosen in the third round by the Washington Commanders.
