Quebec will legislate to limit the use of private health agencies

Health Minister Christian Dubé tabled a bill on Wednesday aimed at limiting the use of private agencies and independent labor in the health and social services sector.

Quebec has long been dependent on these external agencies, which provide public health establishments with piecework staff, in particular to make up for the shortage of manpower.

The use of independent labor cost the public network $3 billion between 2016 and 2022, according to an analysis by the Canadian Union of Public Employees published by Radio-Canada.

Minister Dubé will hold a press conference at the National Assembly on Wednesday morning, after the scheduled tabling of his bill in the House.
