Quebec will accept more family doctors

The number of positions available in family medicine will stand at 449 in 2024, an increase of 37 compared to this year, the Minister of Health, Christian Dubé, announced on Friday.

These new doctors will be the first to benefit from certain reductions put in place by Minister Dubé in order to promote family medicine and attract more new doctors to the region.

“In recent years, medical residents and family doctors have asked for flexibility in the distribution of staff so that family medicine is more attractive for the next generation and we have heard them,” declared the minister in a statement.

New doctors will now have access to a website which brings together medical job offers for each region, in order to facilitate their efforts to choose their place of practice.

“This new method allows candidates to apply in two regions and two sub-regions where they want to work. This major change in the way they access available positions will allow them to better identify their place of work and facilitate work-life balance,” maintains the ministry.

New doctors will also be able to choose the region in which they want to work, in addition to choosing their specific medical activities (AMP) based on their interests and expertise. Until now, AMPs were allocated once the doctor was in place in a region.

The application process for the 2024 regional medical workforce plans (PREM) begins on October 15.
