Quebec wants to recruit 8,000 employees in the school network by 2026

Quebec announced Monday four measures to recruit approximately 8,000 employees in the education network by 2026.

The Legault government wishes to continue to encourage the return of retired teachers on contract or on a substitute basis. The financial incentive put in place in September 2020 will be made permanent, said the Minister of Education, Jean-François Roberge, at a press conference on Monday.

This incentive brought back 700 retirees during the 2020-2021 school year. Quebec anticipates recruiting an “even larger number”, mentioned the Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Solidarity, Jean Boulet.

In order to promote the retention and stability of personnel, Québec is counting on the possibility of granting part-time contracts, making it possible to combine replacement and substitute tasks up to a full task.

The government also plans to fill as many positions as possible before July 1.

To address the labor shortage in school daycare services, $22.6 million will be invested over five years to train more educators.

These measures are in addition to those announced last fall as part of “Operation workforce”, which aims to recruit, train and requalify workers in various public services.
