Quebec | TVA will stop broadcasting its local weekend bulletins

TVA abandons its local weekend news bulletins in Quebec. The network announced the news on Thursday.

The last bulletin will be broadcast on Saturday 1er next June. However, TVA journalists will continue to cover the Capitale-Nationale on Saturdays and Sundays. Their work will be included in the national TVA Nouvelles bulletin. This decision results in “the abolition of the equivalent of approximately two supernumerary positions”, reveals the TVA Group press release.

The company indicates that it made this decision “considering its precarious financial situation” and following the approval of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). On Monday, the organization released TVA from the obligation to present regional bulletins on weekends. The largest private broadcaster in Quebec had called for the modification of certain local programming requirements.

During the week, the local TVA Nouvelles Québec bulletin, piloted by Julie Couture, will continue to be presented every evening, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Last fall, TVA Group announced that it was laying off 547 people, or 31% of its workforce.
