Quebec Tramway | Geneviève Guilbault mandates the Caisse de dépôt et placement

(Quebec) The Legault government has officially entrusted the Caisse de dépôt et placement with the design and construction of phase 1 of the Quebec tramway project.

In a letter made public on Wednesday, the Minister of Transport, Geneviève Guilbault, entrusted the construction of this 19 km circuit to CDPQ Infra, which has already built the REM in Montreal.

CDPQ Infra will however not be responsible for operations, unlike the REM in Montreal, but will have a minority stake which remains to be determined, between 20 and 30% depending on what we can read.

The operator will be chosen by the stakeholders, therefore in particular by the government and the City of Quebec.

The deadline for a final agreement has been set for December 15 and the government indicates that legislative and regulatory changes will have to be adopted by then, which leaves barely two months.

Remember that earlier this year, the Legault government asked CDPQ Infra to intervene, because the City of Quebec had launched an unsuccessful call for tenders for its tramway and then offered to be the project manager itself. of the project.
