(Quebec) The Prime Minister of Quebec, François Legault, announced Thursday his intention to create a National Museum of the History of Quebec, which should be inaugurated in the spring of 2026.
The new museum will be established in Quebec, at the Pavillon Camille-Roy of the Séminaire de Québec, which is currently undergoing renovations.
The government emphasizes in a press release that it will be the first museum devoted exclusively to the history of Quebec. The museum is expected to cover four centuries of history.
The Musée de la civilization will be responsible for writing the content and developing the exhibitions, with the help of historian Éric Bédard.
The government press release does not specify how much it intends to invest in this new project.
In 2021, the Legault government planned to build 18 new museums called “Blue Spaces”, which would have been dedicated to Quebec culture.
An initial construction budget of 259 million had been planned.
However, the CAQ recently abandoned these projects, citing too high costs. Building a Blue Space in each region would have cost nearly 1 billion, according to the government.
