The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) police officers approved the agreement in principle on Friday afternoon by 70%, which provides for an improvement in their working conditions.
The new employment contract, which extends over six years, notably grants police officers salary increases of 26% to 32.9% by April 2027, according to the Association des policiers et policières politiques publiques du Québec (APPQ).
The salary increases represent an “essential catch-up,” according to Jacques Painchaud, president of the APPQ. “We have worked diligently and with determination to present our members with an agreement that will enhance and better recognize the unique status of police officers working within the Sûreté du Québec,” he added.
The agreement was accepted by 70.06%, according to the APPQ. No less than 89% of the 5,800 members of the Association participated in the vote.
