Quebec stands out among the finalists of the Canadian Screen Awards

Quebec stood out among the finalists for the Canadian Screen Awards announced on Wednesday with a total of 32 selections, including 13 for Stéphane Lafleur’s film viking.


Other Quebec films also stood out among the film finalists, namely Falcon Lakeby Charlotte Le Bon (six selections), Baby sitterby Monia Chokri (five selections), and Noémie says yesby Genevieve Albert. New Quebecby Sarah Fortin, and Rodeoby Joëlle Desjardins Paquette, both earned two selections.

In the best fiction short film category, all of the finalists are Quebec productions – for the second consecutive year –, while four of the five finalists in the best animated short film category are Quebec or French-Canadian productions.

On the English side, The Porter leads in television with 19 selections and Brotherby Clement Virgo, stands out in particular in cinema with 14 selections.

The finalists are grouped in 145 categories in television, film and digital media. This is also the first year that the acting categories (lead role and supporting role) are gender neutral in the film and television sections.

The awards will be presented during Canada On Screen Week, April 11-16, with the ceremony, hosted by Toronto comedian Samantha Bee, airing April 16 at 8 p.m. on CBC and CBC Gem.
