Returning from COP26, the solidarity MP Émilise Lessard-Therrien submitted this proposal as a concrete means of limiting Quebec’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
In preparation for his 15e A congress that promises to be the greenest electoral platform in its history, Québec solidaire aspires to play a role in reducing the number of polluting light trucks, the popularity of which has grown by 306% since 2014.
The party recalled that “the transport sector generates nearly 45% of Quebec’s GHG emissions.”
For his part, the spokesperson for Quebec solidaire, Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois, argued that the province is still not a player in the climate crisis.
“The Prime Minister says that we are the least worst in North America, while we have the means to be among the best in the world,” he said, stressing the responsibility of the oil companies and automobiles to curb all forms of advertising in the opposite direction to the environment.
Quebec solidaire’s proposal would see the prohibition of all advertising on the small screen, in radio stations as well as in the public space.
By way of comparison of anti-smoking campaigns, Ms. Lessard-Therrien drew a parallel on the environmental dangerousness of ultra-polluting products, which must be considered in the same way.
