Solidarity MP Ruba Ghazal on Sunday proposed a framework bill to combat sexual violence in schools.
“It is a subject that must be treated in a cross-partisan way, sexual violence against young people,” said the MP.
At a press conference, she was accompanied by Québec solidaire co-spokesperson Manon Massé, Liberal Education critic Marwa Rizqy, Parti Québécois spokesperson Méganne Perry-Mélançon, and members of the collective The voice of young people counts, which fights against sexual violence in schools.
At the end of March, after a series of highly publicized allegations of sexual assault in schools, the Minister of Education, Bernard Drainville, had launched a general investigation. This act allows officials from the Department of Internal Affairs to investigate “any situation involving behavior that could reasonably give rise to fear for the physical or psychological safety of students”.
