(Québec) Claiming to want to further strengthen women’s ability to decide “if and when they want children”, Québec solidaire offers a program of free access to all forms of contraception.

In this eventual program, QS would like to include “all hormonal contraception” in the coverage offered by the RAMQ. The party would also like to facilitate the distribution of other barrier methods, such as the condom.
In a press release, the party’s co-spokesperson, Manon Massé, said she was worried about the recent setbacks in access to abortion in the United States. According to her, the best reaction is to “keep moving forward to allow women to be in full control of their lives”.
The co-spokesperson in solidarity fears that economic constraints deprive people of access to contraception. The significant increase in the cost of living accentuates this risk for many low-income women.
Québec solidaire says it is inspired by a recommendation from the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada, which sees it as a way to reduce the cost of health care related to unwanted pregnancies. A bill that would amount to several tens of millions per year in Quebec.
