Québec Solidaire Congress | “We don’t just have great values,” says Nadeau-Dubois

(Québec) Québec solidaire (QS) wants to demonstrate in 2022 that it is capable of transforming its “beautiful values” into concrete proposals that will improve people’s lives from day to day.

“This is the goal we are trying to achieve,” said QS spokesperson Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois at a press briefing on Saturday, who allows himself to dream of “significant” advances in the next elections.

He affirms that the party will present to Quebeckers the “greenest electoral platform in our history”. The other parties, in addition to being in “existential questioning”, are “shy” in terms of the environment.

We do not boast. We are going to roll up our sleeves, we will work hard, but at least, and that I think that differentiates us from the other parties, we know where we are going, we know what our project is for Quebec.

About 400 members gathered in virtual congress this weekend will vote on some twenty proposals, in particular to face the climate crisis, “the biggest issue of our time”, according to QS.

Already, at the opening of the congress, QS announced its intention to ban “ultra-polluting” advertising from 2022, ie on fossil fuels and gasoline-powered sport utility vehicles (SUVs).

The proposal aims to tackle the uncontrolled growth in the number of polluting vehicles on Quebec roads, said the member for Rouyn-Noranda – Témiscamingue Émilise Lessard-Therrien.

The number of light trucks (such as SUVs) has increased by 306% since 2014, underlines QS, which recalls that the transport sector generates nearly 45% of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Quebec.
