Quebec reports drop of 36 hospitalizations and 22 more deaths

The situation continues to improve on the Quebec health front, less than 24 hours before a further relaxation of restrictive measures aimed at combating the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to data published Sunday by Santé-Québec, the number of hospitalizations amounts to 2411, a drop of 36 compared to what had been announced on Saturday. Authorities count 177 patients in intensive care, down from four.

Twenty-two deaths were added to the death toll. We now deplore 13,475 deaths linked to COVID-19 since its appearance in Quebec.

The Ministry of Health reports 2,568 new cases, for a total of 880,952 people infected since the start of the pandemic. However, the number of cases listed is not representative of the situation since access to screening centers is restricted to priority clienteles.

The seven-day average of new cases stands at 3,069, down more than 9% from the previous Sunday.

Santé Québec does not indicate during the weekend the number of rapid tests that have been self-reported on the platform set up by the government.

The number of active outbreaks also fell, from 1,367 to 1,348.

A total of 26,131 scans were performed on February 4. The positivity rate slipped 0.4 percentage points to 10.4.

The vaccination campaign is faltering. No less than 46,030 doses of vaccine, just under 9,000 than the day before, have been administered in the past 24 hours, including 21,460 booster doses.

The percentage of people aged 5 and over who received a first dose is still around 91%. It is also reported that approximately 85% of the Quebec population received a second dose and that approximately 47% received a booster dose.
