Quebec reports a slight increase in hospitalizations linked to COVID-19

COVID-19 has not said its last word in Quebec.

According to raw data released by the Ministry of Health on Friday, the number of patients hospitalized with the coronavirus rose from 1,004 to 1,010. There are 27 people in intensive care, the same number as the day before.

Five new deaths have been added to the death toll. We now deplore 15,528 deaths linked to COVID-19 since its appearance in Quebec.

The Ministry of Health also reports 877 new cases since the previous report, for a total of more than 1,077,259 infections recorded since the start of the pandemic. However, the number of cases listed is not representative of the situation since access to screening centers is restricted to priority groups.

According to the VaccinTrackerQC site, 5,133 vaccine doses have been administered in the past 24 hours, largely second booster doses.

Among Quebecers aged 5 and over, 91.53% received a first dose, and 87.91% of the population received a second dose. Booster doses are less popular since only 59.88% obtained a third dose and 13.76% a fourth.

Among those aged 60 and over, 43.7% went for a fourth dose.

It will be interesting to observe the effects of the lifting of the wearing of compulsory masks in public transport, this Saturday, on these data over the coming weeks.
