Quebec reports 8,231 new cases of COVID-19

Quebec reported on Monday 8,231 new cases of COVID-19 and 10 other deaths linked to the disease.

The average of new cases over the past seven days is 8,020.

The government has tightened measures against the spread of the virus in recent days, mainly to prevent an out of control situation in hospitals.

The Ministry of Health said 614 people hospitalized are infected with COVID-19, including 109 in intensive care.

Health Minister Christian Dubé said Monday morning that there were 141 more hospitalizations than on December 22.

A total of 44,033 analyzes were performed on December 26. The positivity rate jumped sharply to 24.9

In the past 24 hours, 15,795 doses of vaccine have been administered, including 5,031 booster doses to people 70 years of age and over and 547 first doses to children 5 to 11 years old.

The 3rd dose offered to people aged 60 and over

As of Monday, December 27, Quebecers aged 60 and over can make an appointment online to receive their booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Prime Minister’s office has also confirmed that François Legault, who is 64 years old, would receive his third dose of vaccine on Monday afternoon.

To be eligible for the booster dose, you must have received your second dose of vaccine in at least three months.

In order to slow down the fifth wave of the pandemic propelled by the contagiousness of the Omicron variant, Quebec imposes a maximum of six guests or a maximum of two family bubbles during private gatherings or in restaurants. Outdoor gatherings are limited to 20 people.
