Quebec reports 434 new cases of COVID-19

Quebec reported on Friday 434 new cases of COVID-19, eight additional deaths and a further drop in hospitalizations.

Of the new cases, 317 are people who were unvaccinated or who received only a single dose of the vaccine less than 14 days ago. Nine had only received a single dose at least 14 days ago and 108 had received a second dose at least seven days ago.

The provincial toll is now 421,791 people infected since the start of the pandemic, of which 405,663 have recovered, and 11,466 deaths.

The number of hospitalizations reported on Friday is 260, 14 fewer than on Thursday. Of these patients, 68 are in intensive care, a decrease from four.

Fourteen people entered the hospital on Thursday. Of these, eight were unvaccinated or had only received a single dose less than 14 days ago, one had only received a single dose at least 14 days ago and five had received a second dose at least seven days ago. Of five people who entered intensive care, three were either unvaccinated or had only received a single dose less than 14 days ago and two had received a second dose at least seven days ago.

A total of 28,997 samples were taken on October 20.

Regarding vaccination, 14,367 doses were administered in the last 24 hours in Quebec, for a total of 13,146,542. Outside the province, 211,464 doses were received by Quebecers. .

According to the Institut national de santé publique du Québec, 79.1% of the population has received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Among those 12 years and older, 90.3% have received at least one dose and 87.4% are adequately vaccinated.
