Quebec records 140 new hospitalizations and 23 deaths

While the number of new cases of COVID-19 appears to be on the decline in Quebec, the situation in hospitals continues to worsen.

According to data released Sunday by the Ministry of Health, 11,007 new cases have been detected. However, it is impossible to say whether this decrease is attributable to the fact that PCR tests are no longer subjected to only a part of the population.

The new report indicates that the average of the last seven days has fallen from 15,442 cases to 14,751 in 24 hours. Over the past week, the increase in this average has been around 5%.

Authorities have identified 739,729 cases since the start of the pandemic.

Twenty-three new deaths were added to the death toll. We now deplore 11,940 deaths linked to COVID-19 since its appearance in Quebec.

The situation continues to worsen in hospitals where the number of patients has increased from 2296 to 2436. More than 330 patients have been admitted to a hospital center and 210 others have been discharged. There are 257 people in intensive care, twelve more than the day before.

Alarming sign: the number of active outbreaks has increased significantly, from 1,150 to 1,190

The positivity rate was 19.7% among the 59,499 samples analyzed by PCR test, a decrease of more than five percentage points, compared to the previous day.

No less than 75,000 doses of vaccine have been administered over the past 24 hours, including 4,161 first doses and 66,679 booster doses.

The percentage of people aged 5 years and over who received a first dose is still around 89%. It is also reported that approximately 82% of the Quebec population received a second dose and that approximately 23% received a booster dose.
