All Quebec households should have access to high speed Internet by September 30, 2022.
At least, this is the promise made by the Quebec government on Tuesday when it launched the third part of its program to extend high-speed Internet access to the thousands of homes that are still not covered by a project. deployment.
Entitled Éclair III, this third component has a budget of $ 150 million and aims to complete what the Legault government has dubbed Operation High Speed, either to provide coverage to very isolated households or to others. that were not listed initially.
Quebec estimates that between 15,000 and 30,000 households will be covered by this last component.
The announcement was made in Lévis by the parliamentary assistant to the Prime Minister for the high speed Internet component, Gilles Bélanger, the Minister of Agriculture, André Lamontagne, and the MNA for Bellechasse, Stéphanie Lachance.
Quebec has so far invested $ 1.3 billion to speed up connection to high-speed Internet. Agreements have also been made with Ottawa to achieve a connectivity rate of 99% of the territory.
The first two components of the operation were launched in March and July, and were added to the Régions branchées initiative. Thus, Régions branchées and the Éclair I component are targeting 148,000 households and representing an investment of just over $ 825 million from Ottawa and Quebec.
The Éclair II component, launched on July 21, targets 18,200 additional households, for an investment of nearly $ 95 million.
