Prime Minister François Legault expects the gap to narrow with the opposition in voting intentions over the next few months.
In drawing up his parliamentary assessment of the fall session, Mr. Legault commented Friday on the significant advance he has maintained for months over his opponents in the polls.
“I think it will tighten in the next few months,” he said at a press conference.
Mr. Legault explained that he prefers to consider this scenario because he is not taking anything for granted until next year’s election.
“I have enough experience in politics to know that the polls can change quickly,” he said.
During the fall, Mr. Legault tried to give new impetus to his government by proroguing parliament. He thus wanted to mark an improvement on the pandemic front.
All the same, he had to face the repeated demands of the opposition, which hounded him on his management of the crisis.
This week, the three opposition parties notably joined forces to demand that he mandate a public inquiry into this matter.
