The poet Jacques Brault has died at the age of 89, the Éditions du Boréal announced on Thursday.

“It is with sadness that we learned today of the death of Jacques Brault, born in Montreal in 1933. Poet, novelist, playwright and essayist, he published several essays in the Paper Collated collection. We offer our deepest condolences to his loved ones, ”wrote the publishing house on social networks.
Jacques Brault established himself as a Quebec poet in 1965 when his collection Memorywhich earned him the Prix Québec-Paris, with a study he conducted on the work of Alain Grandbois, in 1968.
The Montrealer has won numerous distinctions, including the prestigious Prix Athanase-David, which he received in 1986 for all of his work.
Jacques Brault is a three-time recipient of the Governor General’s Award for his play When we will be happyhis novel Agony and his collection of poetry The craftsman. In 2013, he was awarded the Prix Victor-Barbeau for his literary essay Paths lost, paths found.
The poet also had a career for several years as a professor at the Institute of Medieval Studies and the Department of French Studies at the University of Montreal.
