The Minister of Social Services, Lionel Carmant, has placed the Youth Protection Directorate (DPJ) of Mauricie-et-du-Centre-du-Québec under supervision.
This decision follows the report of The Press published Wednesday morning reporting several serious failings on the part of the DPJ in this region. In particular, it is reported that the rights of dozens of children have been violated.
For the minister, this situation is “intolerable”.
“What bothers me the most is that it goes against the guidelines we have put in place. I’ve been here for six years and I’ve been saying for six years that we need to do more prevention. Parents must be supported. We must not remove the parents from the children and I read that this morning, I am confused,” he said in a press scrum Wednesday morning at the National Assembly.
