The second season of the series The Rift takes place in Quebec. We find, throughout the nine episodes, “postcard” and signature places of the Old Capital and also places that we do not often see in films and series shot in Quebec. Here are ten places visited by Céline Trudeau (Isabel Richer), Sophie Taylor (Maripier Morin), Alexandre Théberge (Alexandre Landry), Jacques Larocque (Benoit Gouin), Daphné Constant (Naïla Loudort), Joanie Prévost (Romane Denis) and others. Some of these places, which have been recreated in Montreal, do not exist in the same form in Quebec.

Exterior of the Chateau Frontenac
1. The Frontenac castle
Château Frontenac is at the heart of the series. It is in a room of this “postcard” establishment that the engineer Hubert Philippin (Jean Marchand), responsible for the collapse of a viaduct which caused 12 victims and several injured, was cast in concrete in a bath. Several rooms of the Château, which we see in the episodes, have been recreated in Montreal.
2. The courtyard of François-de-Laval College
It was in the courtyard of the Collège François-de-Laval (formerly the Petit Séminaire de Québec) on rue de la Vieille-Université, in Old Québec, that Sophie Taylor and her father, William (Bruno Verdoni), , in the fifth episode, a discussion. A place that has already hosted shows from the Quebec Opera Festival and the Festival d’été in the past.

3. The Martello Tower
There are several Martello towers in the Upper Town of Quebec. Three of the four which were erected in 1812 are still extant and were restored in the early 1990s. Towers Nos. 1 and 4 were used in The Rift 2. Tower No. 1 is located on the Plains of Abraham. Tower No. 4 is erected on rue Lavigueur in the Saint-Jean-Baptiste district. A play has already been presented there as part of the Carrefour international de théâtre.

5. The Quebec-Lévis ferry

Rue Sous-le-Cap
6. Rue Sous-le-Cap
The spectacular Rue Sous-le-Cap, with its walkways built over the street, is located in the Petit-Champlain district in the Old Port of Quebec area. She is featured in the fourth, in a scene where we find the agent Daphné Constant (Naïla Louidort) and Alexandre Théberge (Alexandre Landry).
7. The bar
In the fourth episode, Sophie Taylor (Maripier Morin) and her father, William (Bruno Verdoni), have a drink during a meeting in this superb setting with brick walls, a fireplace and armchairs. This place does not exist in Quebec. It is located at Le Mount Stephen Hotel in Montreal.
8. The viaduct
No need to look near the Quebec highways for the overpass where a commemorative plaque has been set up to remember the 12 victims. He does not exist. These sequences were shot in Montreal. And the memorial is, of course, an element of scenery.

9. The laboratory and the tunnels
The magic of cinema made it possible to reconstruct a series of tunnels and a laboratory, where Hubert Philippin (Jean Marchand) carried out his research on the creation of a super concrete. There are no tunnels connecting the Martello Towers, and the whole thing has been reconstructed in the metropolis.
10. Auberge Saint-Gabriel
The Montcalm room, a private club where the elite of the Old Capital meets, which seems to be inside the Château Frontenac, does not exist. There are several salons at the Château Frontenac, but none with this name. The scenes in this fictional upscale living room were filmed at the Auberge Saint-Gabriel in Montreal.
The Rift 2 airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on TVA and is available on Club illico.
