Quebec office in Tel Aviv | A “lack of frankness” from Minister Biron, according to the PQ

(Quebec) The Parti Québécois (PQ) accuses the Minister of International Relations, Martine Biron, of lacking frankness and transparency in the controversy over the opening of a Quebec office in Tel Aviv, Israel.

The minister has always argued that this office opened just before the conflict between Israel and Hamas would serve as a gateway to the Middle East, to also do business with Turkey, Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates.

However, internal documents obtained by the PQ make no mention of any regional strategy.

The Canadian Press was able to consult the document redacted in places.

These documents evoke numerous reasons in favor of diplomatic representation in Israel, but nothing on this regional strategy or an influence of the Office outside the borders of the Jewish state.

According to PQ MP Pascal Paradis, anyone familiar with international relations knows very well that opening an office in Tel Aviv is not a good idea to promote relations with Middle Eastern countries.
