Quebec now recommends that people aged 70 and over and those who have received two doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to be inoculated a third time to be better protected against COVID-19.
With a recommendation from public health and the Committee on Immunization of Quebec (CIQ), the Minister of Health, Christian Dubé, announced Tuesday that a third dose would be offered, on a voluntary basis, to people of 70 years and over.
“From the age of 80, we have a decline in immunity,” said the national director of public health, Horacio Arruda. “Yes”, he added when a journalist asked him if the 70-79 year olds were therefore included in the recommendation “out of prudence”.
For those who are doubly vaccinated with the AstraZeneca product, the booster should be done with an mRNA vaccine, such as those from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna.
People who want a third dose can do so if at least six months have passed since their last dose.
They will be able to make an appointment on the ClicSanté platform from November 16.
