(Quebec) Quebec police have opened an investigation into an incident in which a septuagenarian who had been pulled from a burning vehicle by a firefighter on the night of Monday to Tuesday succumbed to his injuries.
According to the Quebec City Police Department (SPVQ), first responders were called around 2:20 a.m. to go to rue de La Pérade, where a vehicle was engulfed in flames.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, they spotted a man inside the burning vehicle. A firefighter reportedly managed to pull him out of the vehicle, and resuscitation procedures were then initiated.
The 71-year-old man was then rushed to hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.
Firefighters subsequently brought the vehicle fire under control. An investigation into the causes of the blaze was opened by the SPVQ, which did not put forward any hypothesis on Tuesday morning.
A security perimeter has been set up. Investigators from the Serious Crime Unit and the Forensic Identification Unit have been deployed to establish the circumstances of the events.
