Quebec | Man arrested drunk while driving a scooter

(Quebec) A man from Quebec, a repeat drunk driving offender, was arrested by the police while he was driving his scooter in a drunken state while trying as best he could to pull a trailer.

A little before 8 a.m. Sunday morning, a resident of the Beauport borough noticed that a man in his seventies had lost control of his scooter. He immediately called the police.

“The man had lost control of his scooter and ended the race on the sidewalk. The driver was drunk. He blew more than double the permitted limit,” indicated the spokesperson for the Quebec City Police Department, David Poitras.

“He was trying to pull a 4-foot by 8-foot trailer. Obviously, given the shooting capacity of the scooter and the fact that he was intoxicated, that can explain why he lost control,” adds Mr. Poitras.

The 78-year-old man, who has several prior drunk driving records, was arrested. Anyone who was subject to a national driving ban must appear at the Quebec courthouse. His scooter was seized by the police.

“Driving a motorized mobility aid while impaired by drugs, medication or alcohol is prohibited. Indeed, the Criminal Code also applies to the driving of this means of transport,” recalls the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) on its website.
