Quebec lists 19 new deaths attributable to COVID-19

Nineteen other Quebecers have succumbed to COVID-19, but authorities are at least reporting a slowdown in hospitalizations related to the disease.

Among the new deaths announced on Friday, three occurred in the past 24 hours. Fourteen people died two to seven days ago, and two more than seven days ago.

Since the start of the pandemic, 17,533 Quebecers have lost their lives in connection with the disease.

After several days of increases in hospitalizations, authorities on Friday reported a decrease of 44 from the previous day. There are now 2,062 patients with COVID-19 who are hospitalized, including 693 due to the disease.

Six fewer people end up in intensive care, for a total of 61 people, including 34 who are being treated specifically for COVID-19.

There are still more than 4000 professionals who are in withdrawal in connection with the virus.

The number of new cases remained high, with 1221 new infections, and a positivity rate of 12.4%. And we must add at least 154 cases detected Thursday by rapid tests.

The number of cases is probably underestimated, since the screening centers are reserved for priority clienteles.

The vaccination campaign regained some strength on Thursday, with 19,617 Quebecers receiving an injection.
