The Minister of Higher Education, Pascale Déry, ordered an investigation into the governance of the Cégep de Saint-Hyacinthe. The duty revealed last month a tense climate in the establishment between employees and management.
In a statement provided Thursday evening to DutyMinister Déry’s office indicates “the imminent launch” of this administrative investigation to “shed light on governance practices at the Cégep de Saint-Hyacinthe”.
“The situation appears to us to be very worrying, so we deemed it necessary to launch a formal investigation to restore sound governance”, explains press officer Simon Savignac, who assures that the ministry “is in constant contact” with management and the unions. from college.
At the center of the controversy: the study commission of the Cégep de Saint-Hyacinthe, the turnover of managers and the high dropout and failure rates of computer science students.
Resignation of the general manager
Tuesday, the director general of the cégep de Saint-Hyacinthe, Emmanuel Montini, left his functions on a temporary basis after the professors demanded with one voice his resignation – and that of the president of the board of directors – because of the climate. of “unhealthy” work that reigns there.
Following the departure of Mr. Montini, Minister Déry’s office said in its statement on Thursday that it “hopes” that an interim director general will be appointed quickly and this, “in the best interest of the students”.
At the end of April, the Minister of Higher Education had requested a “state of the situation” from her ministry so that it could communicate with the Cégep de Saint-Hyacinthe about the “worrying” allegations.
At the time of writing these lines, neither the Saint-Hyacinthe Cégep teachers’ union nor management have responded to interview requests from the Duty.
