Quebec Detention Center | Drone sighting leads to three arrests

The presence of a drone near the Quebec detention facility around 2:30 a.m. on the night of Saturday to Sunday led to the arrest of three men.

The three individuals, aged 26, 24 and 22, were arrested near the scene by the Quebec City police department, the Sûreté du Québec said on Sunday.

The three individuals have been released and are expected to appear shortly to face charges related to drug possession and trafficking.

During this operation, the police also seized a small amount of cannabis, hashish, tobacco, a drone and a cell phone.

“The success of this operation was the result of close collaboration between the police forces and the detention facility,” the Sûreté du Québec said in a press release.

These arrests occur in a context where the number of seizures in Quebec prisons has increased markedly since the pandemic, while more and more inmates do not hesitate to post themselves on social networks, despite the efforts of prison authorities. to stem this scourge.

In 2021 alone, correctional officers seized 959 cellphones, a record set to be shattered in 2022. Indeed, in the first nine months of last year, almost 1,000 cellphones were seized in custody, according to data from the Ministry of Public Security obtained by The Press.
