Quebec deplores 12 additional deaths linked to COVID-19

Patients succumbing to COVID-19 continue to pile up, with 12 new deaths reported on Friday.

Since the start of the pandemic, 17,026 Quebecers have died. Of the 12 additional deaths, one occurred in the past 24 hours, nine occurred two to seven days ago and two more than seven days ago.

Authorities also reported an uptick in hospitalizations after several days of declines. Seventeen more people with the disease were hospitalized, according to the latest report, bringing the total to 1,942 hospitalizations, including 635 due to COVID-19.

In intensive care, 61 patients were treated, including 30 specifically for the disease, which represents an increase of four.

Moreover, more than 3,700 professionals were withdrawn for reasons related to COVID-19.

As for cases, the authorities reported 965 new infections, but this number is underestimated given that access to screening centers is restricted to priority clienteles.

Quebecers declared 148 rapid tests on Thursday, including 123 positive. The total stands at 304,255 self-reported rapid tests so far, including 255,691 positives.

According to the ministry’s dashboard, the positivity rate is 9.9%.

For vaccination, 24,081 doses were administered on Wednesday for a total of 21,809,653 vaccines injected into Quebecers.
