Quebec crosses 5,000 new COVID-19 cases

A government source confirms to Duty that the province will register more than 5,000 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday. This is an unprecedented high since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

At a press briefing Monday, the Minister of Health and Social Services Christian Dubé reported that the health situation is “critical”.

The National Institute of Excellence in Health and Social Services (INESSS) as well as the National Institute of Public Health of Quebec (INSPQ) presented their projections on Monday evening regarding hospitalizations of patients with COVID-19.

According to a source who has taken cognizance of these data, the scenario is “catastrophic and much worse than for the previous waves”. This source specifies, however, that the projections are “above all very uncertain”.

The scientific community is still uncertain whether the Omicron variant causes symptoms as severe, or more severe, than Delta.

Further details will follow …
