(Montreal) Vampires are still popular, if we are to believe the list of finalists for the 2024 Iris awards, unveiled Monday by Québec Cinéma. Humanist vampire seeking consenting suicide largely dominates the race with no less than 22 nominations.
A total of 41 films make up the list of finalists to win the 30 Iris prizes which will be awarded at the beginning of December. The vampire film by Ariane Louis-Seize, which is in the lead, was notably nominated for the categories of Best Film, Best Direction, Best Screenplay and for seven acting awards. A great start for the director’s darkly humorous dramatic comedy, for which this is her first feature film and which also competes in the Best First Film category.
Among the favorites is also the film deconstructing traditional conceptions of love that is Simple like Sylvainby Monia Chokri. It culminated in 14 nominations, including Best Film, Best Screenplay, Best Direction and four nominations for its performers.
Follow closely 1995fourth part of the autobiographical series by Ricardo Trogi, Richelieupamphlet by Pier-Philippe Chevigny on the working conditions of foreign workers in the agricultural sector, and Solodrama by Sophie Dupuis set in the world of Montreal drag.
“Quebec cinema is doing well: it is rich and diversified, and it is meeting more and more audiences,” rejoiced Dominique Dugas, the general director of Québec Cinéma, in a press release, promising a “Quebec Cinema Gala which will amaze us! »
The Gala Québec Cinéma, which rewards the artisans of Quebec cinema, will be held on December 8 on the airwaves of Noovo, which took over the gala after the abandonment of Radio-Canada. Comedian Phil Roy will serve as master of ceremonies for this 26e edition of the Gala Québec Cinéma. He promised to put an end to the time-honoured line “silence, we’re filming” by offering an evening “anything but silent”.
Twelve trophies will be awarded during the ceremony on December 8, including the Michel-Côté prize, awarded by the public. Cinephiles are now invited to vote for their favorite film on noovo.ca among 1995, Our sisters-in-law, Ru, Simple like Sylvain And Will.
The Artisans Gala will be presented on December 4 at Grandé Studios in Montreal. It will be hosted by the comedian and drag queen Mona from Grenoble.
