Quebec announces new assistance measures for tenants

(Quebec) As the fateful date of 1er July, the Legault government deploys new measures to help tenants who are struggling to find a roof over their heads.

The Minister of Housing, France-Élaine Duranceau, announced Tuesday that Quebec would provide 7.8 million to municipalities and housing offices in different regions.

These amounts will make it possible to set up housing assistance services and assist households who must pay amounts for temporary accommodation or the storage and transportation of goods.

The minister indicated that this was an increase in last year’s envelope, which amounted to 5.2 million.

The government also says it has made the Quebec Rent Supplement Program more flexible so that households on a waiting list have quicker access to subsidized housing. It is a “new way of doing things”, according to the minister, which will make it possible to “remove names from the waiting list”, she explained.

Households who want to access this program must register with their housing office.

“Our objective is clear: that each person using our services has a roof over their heads. You must call on our services so that we can help you,” insisted Minister Duranceau during a press conference in Quebec.
