Quebec and the FAE report progress

The Autonomous Federation of Education (FAE) reports that the discussions which took place Monday with the Quebec government negotiators at the negotiating tables were productive.

In a message sent Monday evening on social networks, the union which represents some 66,000 teachers on an indefinite general strike since November 23 added that there had been progress in the preceding hours.

The FAE clarified that the talks were to continue on Monday evening, but that it remained cautious, signaling that the tree must be judged by its fruits.

Earlier Monday, the president of the Treasury Board, Sonia LeBel, affirmed that the government and FAE negotiators were in a crucial phase with a view to a possible agreement. On social networks, Minister LeBel wrote: “important discussions took place and we now have on the table the essential elements to reach an agreement.”

For its part, the Interprofessional Health Federation (FIQ), which has been on strike again since Monday, revealed that it had made a counter-salary proposal to the government. She was still waiting for a response on Monday and said she was ready to negotiate during the holidays if necessary.

The FIQ, which represents 80,000 nurses, practical nurses, respiratory therapists and clinical perfusionists, is holding a four-day strike until Thursday.

As for the inter-union common front, which represents 420,000 workers, it has been on strike since December 8 until December 14.
