Quebec and Ottawa reach an agreement on housing

(Quebec) Quebec and Ottawa have reached an agreement regarding the new federal fund to accelerate housing construction. Quebec will receive $900 million from Ottawa and will match the federal contribution, which will represent total investments of $1.8 billion in five years.

The Press revealed on October 5 these upcoming investments to tackle the housing crisis. An agreement was then considered imminent.

The same day, Prime Minister François Legault put pressure on his counterpart Justin Trudeau for an agreement to be reached by this Friday.

According to him, this was essential for the federal pot of $900 million to be included in the November 7 economic update from his Finance Minister Eric Girard.

The big financier of the Legault government will therefore be able to confirm investments of 1.8 billion next month.

On social networks, the Minister responsible for Housing, France-Élaine Duranceau, said she was “very happy” with the conclusion of an agreement with federal Housing Minister Sean Fraser. “Details of this agreement will be disclosed in an announcement soon. We will not make any further comments until then. »
