Don’t be surprised if you called 911 unintentionally. Nearly 40% of 911 calls in Quebec City are accidental calls. Commonly called pocket callsthey are triggered when the phone is in the owner’s pocket.
The 911 center in Quebec receives an average of 750 pocket calls triggered by the SOS emergency option of iPhone and Android phones every day, reveals the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ) in a press release. This number represents 39% of all calls received by the centre.
“The consequences of his calls are numerous and have a real impact on the call response time for real emergencies,” said David Poitras, spokesperson for the SPVQ. These pocket calls occur since a phone software update.
The SPVQ asks citizens to deactivate the SOS emergency option through the phone settings.
