(Quebec) The Quebec police have opened an investigation to find a motorist who fled after hitting a young cyclist on Saturday afternoon. The 10-year-old boy suffered only minor injuries.
The incident occurred around 2:10 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Avenue Chauveau and Rue Voltaire, in the Lebourgneuf district. According to information from the Quebec City Police Department (SPVQ), the boy was riding on the bike path that runs along Chauveau Avenue and he was hit while trying to cross the street to return to Voltaire Street.
The 10-year-old boy was not seriously injured – he only had a few scratches after the collision – but the police opened an investigation after the motorist did not stop. We are therefore talking about a hit-and-run.
“We have witnesses to the accident, so we still have good information about the fleeing vehicle,” said SPVQ spokesperson Marie-Pier Rivard.
Police are not issuing a public search warrant for the vehicle at this time. “The Investigations Division will take the file in hand and if it is relevant to release details to the public, we will do so. But we are not there now, “said Agent Rivard.
The boy left the scene with his family and the investigation into the hit-and-run is continuing.
