Almost all of the political parties are running a carbon neutral campaign and will offset all the greenhouse gases produced by driving on Quebec’s asphalt. The only delinquent caravan is that of Éric Duhaime’s curators.

Crossing all of Quebec in a bus, sometimes several times, produces a lot of greenhouse gases (GHGs). In addition to the Parti Québécois and the Conservatives, the other parties crisscross the constituencies with two caravans, reserving one for the media.
Halfway through, the parties have already traveled a total of nearly 25,000 kilometers.
The Coalition Avenir Québec, Québec solidaire, the Liberal Party and the Parti Québécois have all confirmed that they will offset the pollution emitted during the 36 days of the election campaign so that it is carbon neutral.
Conservatives ? No.
“Our campaign is not carbon neutral,” said Cédric Lapointe, press officer for the party. He assures that the PCQ is “aware of the importance of reducing” the ecological footprint.
Certified parties
The CAQ relies on the PlanetAir organization to certify its offsets.

“Our campaign will be carbon neutral and will cover all the trips of the two buses, as well as those of the tracking teams.
The compensation will obviously be known at the end of the election campaign,” mentioned spokesperson Claudia Louperet.
In addition to offsetting the GHG emissions surrounding all of the trips made by the tour and Manon Massé’s van, the Manon-Mobile, via Carbone boréal’s tree planting program, Québec solidaire is also trying to reduce its carbon footprint.

“At the same time, we are trying to reduce the waste produced during the campaign as much as possible, such as reusable dishes, with compostable lunch boxes, as much as possible, waste sorting, with recycling and compost.
We also printed double-sided signs this year to reduce the resources used,” explained press officer Sandrine Bourque.
For its part, the PLQ is “again” certified Carboneutre Québec.

“Our Carbon Footprint for Campaign Buses […] amounts to 49.87 tonnes; 357 trees will be planted by Carboneutre Québec to compensate,” said communications director Jérémy Ghio.
12,000 km planned

“By projecting a route of 12,000 km for the entire campaign, the bus will consume 10.07 tonnes of CO2. This requires the planting of 71 trees. We undertake to pay a supplement at the end of the campaign if the actual mileage proves to be greater than 12,000 km”, indicated Laura Chouinard-Thuly.
The PQ caravan will also head for the Saguenay and the North Shore this weekend, which could inflate the number of GHGs produced.
