Quarterly results of Aéroports de Montréal | The return of travelers is accelerating at Montréal-Trudeau

Travelers returned to Montréal-Trudeau in large numbers from July to September, which should allow the airport to end the year with passenger traffic at 80% of its pre-pandemic level “if the current trend continues”.

Aéroports de Montréal (ADM), the operator of Montréal-Trudeau and Mirabel airports, released third-quarter results on Tuesday that reflect the recovery in travel. The non-profit organization posted a surplus of $38 million in the quarter ended Sept. 30, compared with a loss of $42 million last year. Revenue jumped 137% to 200 million.

Montréal-Trudeau welcomed 5.4 million passengers during the months of July, August and September, or 89.4% of the level recorded in 2019, before the arrival of COVID-19. After the first nine months of the year, ridership was 74% of its 2019 level.

Things seem to be back to normal sooner than expected, but ADM is opting for caution. The organization still expects to turn the page on the pandemic in 2024.

“As for the acceleration of the schedule, we still prefer to remain cautious, taking into account inflation and possible fears of an economic slowdown,” said ADM in a statement.

In the third quarter, the strongest increases in passenger traffic were observed in the international sector as well as to the United States.
